Variscite Crystal Healing Properties

History and Uses

Variscite is a relatively rare mineral. It is often confused with Chrysoprase or Turquoise because of its colour ranging from pale to dark green depending on the chromium content. It was first described in 1837 and after Variscia, the historical name of the Vogtland, in Germany where it was found. It is also known as Utahlite, Barrandite, Bolivarite and Lucinite.

Geological Description

Variscite is a hydrated aluminium phosphate mineral with a hardness of 3.5 to 5. It is formed by direct deposition from phosphate-bearing water that has reacted with aluminium-rich rocks and occurs as fine-grained masses in nodules, cavity fillings, and crusts. Variscite can be found in Utah and Navada, in the USA, in Germany, Queensland inAustralia, Poland, Spain and Brazil.
