Rhodonite Crystal Healing Properties

Rhodonite is thought to aid in perceiving where one’s talents lie. It is thought to be a stone of learning and development. Also, it’s thought to increase self-worth. As such, it allows one to feel clarity and confidence around where one’s path might lead. Similarly, it encourages responsibility, generosity and co-operation in both individuals and communities. Lastly, it is thought to be a wonderful support for new mothers during the birth process.

History and Uses

Rhodonite derives its name from the Greek word “rhodos” meaning rosy which is a reference to its deep pink colour. It was first described in the 19th century but has been used throughout history to decorate objects. Similarly, during the Middle Ages it was used as a talisman to bring happiness and honour. It is found in the Ural region in Russia. A large slab of it was used to build a tomb for the wife of Czar Alexander II. It took 16 years to build and was finished in 1906. These days, it is now in the Peter-and-Paul Cathedral in St. Petersburg. Rhodonite can be distinguished from Rhodochrosite by the inclusion of black manganese.

Geological Description

Rhodochrosite is a manganese metasilicate mineral with a hardness of 5.5 to 6.5. It mostly occurs in massive or granular habits but can also crystallise in tabular form. Rhodonite frequently contains black inclusions of manganese oxide. It is found in Sweden, Australia, India, Madagascar, Mexico, South Africa, Brazil, Canada and the USA.
