Prehnite Crystal Healing Properties

Prehnite is thought to hold a calm energy and is a gentle, nurturing stone. It is believed to cool down anger and help to quieten restlessness, nervousness and worry. Nicknamed ’emotional soap’, it releases emotional debris from the aura and connects our hearts to nature and the planet earth. It can facilitate the expression of emotions or thoughts and help us to communicate in a non-judgemental way. It can be used to enhance lucid dreaming and banish nightmares.

History and Uses

Prehnite varies in colour from light green to yellow but can also be colourless, blue or white and a rare orange Prehnite was discovered in the Kalahari Manganese Fields in April 2000. First described in 1788, when it was found in Eastern Cape Province, South Africa, it was named after Colonel Hendrik Von Prehn who had commanded the Dutch military forces at the Cape of Good Hope from 1768 to 1780. This stone has been used by South African shamans since ancient times to enhance their powers of prophecy and it is a great ally for readers and healers.

Geological Description

The geological formation of a Prehnite Epidote begins with the complex processes that occur deep within the Earth’s crust over millions of years.

It starts with the initial formation of igneous rocks, which are created when molten magma cools and solidifies. As the magma cools, it undergoes crystallization, resulting in the formation of various minerals.

Over time, geological forces such as tectonic activity and mountain-building processes can cause the uplift and exposure of these igneous rocks to the Earth’s surface. This exposure exposes the rocks to the elements, including water, wind, and erosion.

As weathering and erosion take place, the surface rocks undergo physical and chemical changes. This can lead to the breakdown and alteration of minerals within the rock, creating new mineral assemblages.

In the case of Prehnite  and Epidote , the formation involves the interaction of hydrothermal fluids with the existing rock. Hydrothermal fluids are heated water-rich solutions that circulate through cracks and fractures in the rock. These fluids can carry dissolved elements and minerals, which can precipitate out and form new minerals under specific temperature and pressure conditions.

Within this hydrothermal system, Prehnite and Epidote minerals can crystallize and grow. Prehnite forms from the reaction of calcium, aluminum, and silica in the hydrothermal fluids, while Epidote forms from the interaction of calcium, aluminum, iron, and silica.

As time passes, the hydrothermal fluids gradually cool and decrease in pressure, allowing the Prehnite and Epidote crystals to grow larger and develop their characteristic shapes and colors.

Eventually, geological processes such as uplift, erosion, and the exposure of the mineralized rock to the surface bring these formations within reach.

The geological formation of  Prehnite and Epidote exemplifies the intricate interplay between geological processes, mineralization, and the transformative power of time. It is a testament to the Earth’s geological history and the remarkable natural formations that can be discovered and appreciated.
