Diopside Crystal Healing Properties

Green Chrome Diopside is thought to embody the energy of the Green Tara, Earth Mother Goddess of the Bhuddist tradition. This soothing protective crystal may help you to open your heart and to feel more centred. Similarly, it is believed to help one to connect with the rhythm of the earth, to understand the consciousness of the planet and the wisdom within all of Nature.

It is known to be a stone of learning, aiding you to find and assimilate information. It is believed to be a great help to those with learning difficulties. Similarly, it has also been known to be of benefit for women, especially with balancing in their menopausal years.

History and Uses

Diopside comes in two forms, the less common Black Star Diopside, used for geomancy and Chrome Diopside also called Green Diopside or Siberian Emerald. Its chrome content is what gives this crystal its greenish hue. The name is derived from the Greek words “dis”, meaning twice, and prósopo, meaning face in reference to the two ways of orienting the vertical prism.

First discovered in 1800, it has traditionally been used as it was thought to aid in the recovery from surgery or illness, eating disorders, obsessive behaviour and addictions.

Geological Description

Diopside is a calcium magnesium silicate with a hardness of 5.5 to 6. It varies in colour from white to green to brown, grey, reddish brown, yellow-brown and black and is found in Canada, South Africa, Brazil, and the USA.
