History and Uses

Cerussite is named from the Latin word “cerussa’ meaning white lead. It comes in colours of white, blue, gray, green, as well as colorless and transparent to translucent forms. It was used since ancient Greek times to make a white pigment for paint and cosmetics.

It is believed that Cerussite may stimulate the brain and balance the left and right hemispheres, increasing brain activity, mental processing, improving clarity of thought and concentration. It has been used by crystal healers for its believed ability to help treat ADHD, dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. In addition, it is believed to alleviate stress, anxiety, and insomnia, in combating addiction and to aid in weight loss.

Geological Description

Cerussite is a lead carbonate mineral with a hardness of 3.5. Its crystal system is orthorhombic. Good quality specimens have been found in Czech Republic, Sardinia, Austria, Scotland, Namibia and the USA.
